President Donald Trump has hit back at E. Jean Carroll by filing a defamation lawsuit against her for falsely accusing him of rape.
This countersuit comes after a civil jury found him โguilty of sexual abuse and defamation,โ but not rape, in a May trial.
Trump is appealing that ruling.
Filed in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday, Trumpโs counterclaim cites Carrollโs post-verdict comments on CNN.
Carroll was asked about the verdict finding Trump โsexually abusedโ Carroll but did not rape her as she claimed.
Carroll responded by blurting out, โOh, yes he did.โ
Trump wants not only a retraction but he wants unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
Carrollโs lawyer Roberta Kaplan said: โDonald Trump again argues, contrary to both logic and fact, that he was exonerated by a jury that found that he sexually abused E. Jean Carroll.
โTrumpโs filing is thus nothing more than his latest effort to delay accountability for what a jury has already found to be his defamation of E. Jean Carroll.
โBut whether he likes it or not, that accountability is coming very soon.โ

According to The Guardian:
Carroll, a former Elle magazine advice columnist, amended the first of her two lawsuits against Trump and sought an additional $10m in damages in May, citing his denials during a CNN appearance the day after the verdict.
Trump, who is running to retake the White House in 2024 and has a comfortable lead over his Republican rivals, has denied raping Carroll.
He is appealing against the civil verdict, which found he must pay $5m in damages.
Carroll testified that Trump raped her in a New York City department store in the mid-1990s and then ruined her reputation by calling her a liar when she went public in 2019.
