In the Spotlight

An explosively hilarious action comedy film that doesn’t disappoint from beginning to end (note there are a lot of perfectly timed explosion in this film). Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Taran Killam; also written and directed by Taran Killam. What impressed me about the movie was how well the script was written. The plot follows the style of a documentary where a team of hit-men (and hit-women) led by Blake ‘The Suit’ Hammon, attempt to kill the best hit-man in the business – Gunther – while documenting the entire process in order to prove to the world that they are responsible for killing Gunther.
Filled with a motley crew of interesting characters (the team is like a who’s who of notorious criminals – explosives experts, terrorists, hackers, poison experts, snipers and Russian contract killers), we are able to witness the planning, false-starts and set-backs in all their hilarity as the team does their best to take Gunther down. As expected Gunther is always ten steps ahead of his assailants and the team is left dumbfounded by Gunther’s brilliance.
I especially like the part where Gunther faces Blake in the climax of movie and reveals how he preempted the whole plan while also filming his own documentary. This movie is also filled with funny, ironic, dialogue such as the part where Gunther "schools" Blake on the younger generations (Millennial) entitlement attitude - Gunther blames Blake for not working hard enough to be the best hit-man and simply trying to take a short-cut to being the best.
If you're looking for a movie filled with laughs then this is it. Killing Gunther is fun to watch.
